Last night (Dec. 7, 2009) Summit used an ineligible player in the match vs. the Kenilworth Kramniks, which was drawn 2-2. The board by board results & a full account follow:

* Summit player ineligible. Game was played provisionally.

I arrived at the site and saw that Kramniks’ member Ted Mann, who was not scheduled to play, was present.

After speaking with Ted, I discovered that he was in Summit’s lineup.

Mann, who apparently forgot that he had played for the Kramniks on October 8th (vs. Staten Island), was immediately informed he was ineligible to play for Summit. Summit Captain Simon Thomson was genuinely unaware that Ted had played for another team.

There were 2 substitutes available for Summit: Bill King and someone I only know as “Steve from Lucent”. Both are regulars at the Summit club and I suggested that one of them play in place of Mann. For reasons unknown, they did not. There was no mention of ratings problems. King & Steve X. were present until the match’s final minutes.

Before the match began, I ruled that the result on board 4 would be subject to league approval. There was no complaint from either side about this decision.

When the match ended, I announced the result would be reported as a 2-2 tie, pending review.

As a side note, the game on board 4 was played with incorrect colors. Agress should have been Black.

Finally, in my opinion, Summit should forfeit on board 4 or the game should be voided.

Sincerely,

John Moldovan
