2009 Inter-Service Chess Championship Begins

This year, for the second year in a row, I’ve had the privilege of competing in the Inter-Service Chess Championship.  This year it is hosted by the Army at Ft. Benning, Georgia.   MGySgt Adkins and I, Cpl Carrelli, make up the Marine Corps Team.  Each branch fields a team of six; however, for the last two years, only myself and MGySgt Adkins were able to compete for the Marines.

After Round 2, the team standings are….

7.5 - Air Force

7 - Army

4 - Navy

1.5 – Marine Corps (2 players only)

My record for the day is 0-1-1.  A poor start for me this year compared to last where I ended the first day with a full two points.  I look forward to post one of my better games to be played!

Comments:
Thanks for the report Don. Wish you better success in rounds 3-7. No Monroi coverage (probably because the U.S. Championship starts Thursday) unless Andres Hortillosa makes some blog posts there.

Post some games for us!

Army will win it all this year. I was the ball and chain last year and should have gotten a point to put us over the top. SGT Darryl West USAR.
Go Army!!!! Back in my active duty days I tried to enter this tournament and was qualified but no one help me out because the internet was not available and the information was lacking from the local MWR's.
So I want to echo that it is a real privilege for me to participate in this wonderful program and enjoy it. I have a great story to tell my grandkids. Good luck Carrelli beat out MGySGT. Thanks for shedding some light on the MonRoi blackout.

Plaese post some interesting games for us, also please update us with the teams results.
Thx!!!
